Promimic Appoints New Chairman and Directors to its Board

GOTHENBURG – October 27, 2016. Promimic today announces that the company has elected Tord Lendau as Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Håkan Krook and Patrik Sjöstrand as Non-executive Directors.

Tord Lendau brings to Promimic more than 32 years’ of international leadership and board experience from innovative, rapid growth companies. Most recently, he was General Manager at Sandvik MedTech, and has previously held senior executive roles at Synectics, Medtronic, ArthroCare and Diamyd. Other current assignments include Chairman of the board of Encare AB, Scibase AB, Hubbster AB and Actea Consulting AB, and he is a Board member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Vitrolife. Mr Lendau studied Industrial Engineering at Linköping University.

Håkan Krook holds the position as Fund Manager at Chalmers Ventures (March 2013-present) and was previously CEO of ALMI Invest Västsverige AB (2009-2013). Mr Krook is an experienced investor and entrepreneur and brings more than 20 years’ experience from advising fast-growing companies. He holds an MSc in Business and Economics from Karlstad University.

Patrik Sjöstrand has been Investment Manager at Almi Invest AB since October 2015, and is a Board member of winningtemp AB, Lumina Adhesives AB, Metrum AB, Monivent AB and Stayble Therapeutics AB.  Prior to this he was Chief Operational Officer at Orzone AB (2010-2015). He holds a BSc in Construction Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology.

Promimic and Danco successfully complete production line for HAnano Surface coating for medical implants

WARSAW, IN, USA AND GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN– OCTOBER, 19th, 2016. Promimic AB, an innovative biomaterials company, and Danco Anodizing today announced the successful completion of the productionline for Promimic's HAnano Surface coating for orthopedic and dental implants. The two companies entered a strategic partnership in March 2016 under which Danco became the preferred process partner for Promimic for the USA and China medical implant markets. Danco has also invested in the production line for HAnano Surface at its manufacturing facility in Warsaw, IN, USA.

Promimic's HAnano Surface represents a new era of implant surfaces, based on bio-mimickingsynthetic bone minerals. Promimic raises SEK23.8 million to establish operations in the US to drive commercial activities around its novel HAnano Surface medical implant coating technology

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN September 13, 2016 Promimic AB, an innovative biomaterials company, today announced that it has secured SEK 23.8 million (US$3.2 million) in a new share issue to finance the establishment of its commercial operations in the US, the world’s largest market for medical implants. Chalmers Ventures, one of Sweden’s most prolific investors in innovative businesses, participated as a new investor alongside existing investors Karolinska Development and Almi Invest.

The new operation will be based in Austin, Texas and will be led by the company’s CEO Ulf Brogren, with the aim of building up  a regional sales team targeting the US orthopedic and dental implant markets with novel products enhanced with Promimic’s HAnano Surface coating technology. Production and development will remain in Gothenburg, where the company is a part of AstraZeneca's Bio Venture Hub.

The company already has the first approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for a dental implant using HAnano Surface, and has a spinal implant using HAnano Surface under review . Further product opportunities are being developed and expected to be launched into the US market in the coming years.

Promimic develops and markets a unique surface technology for medical implants (orthopaedic and dental) called HAnano Surface, which increases their anchoring strength and integration with surrounding bone tissue. The HAnano Surface has been evaluated in both in vitro and in vivo studies, which have shown that it can reduce healing times. HAnano Surface is nanometer thin and designed to improve the hydrophilicity of the implant, which increases the possibility for bone cells to attach to the surface, while helping to preserve the micro-structure of the implant and eliminating the risk of cracks in the coating.

The HAnano Surface improves implant-to-bone integration for PEEK implants

GÖTEBORG 2016-05-03 – Promimic AB today announced the results of an in vivo proof of concept study on Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) implants coated with nano-sized hydroxyapatite published in International Journal of Nanomedicine.

The results of the study show a significant improvement of bone-to-implant contact for the Hydroxyapatit (HA) nano coated implants compared to uncoated controls at 3 weeks and 12 weeks follow-up. In addition, a perforating hole in the implant showed significantly more bone area for the HA-coated implants at both healing points.

“We are tremendously satisfied with the results. The results does not only show that our surface material significantly improves the osteogenic properties of PEEK implants. It also shows a level of improvement that is clinically relevant and may help overcome the shortcomings of PEEK as a bioinert material with poor bone forming properties. Translating these results to the clinical situation, meaning it does not necessarily have to be a trade-off any more between the mechanical properties of the material and its ability for osseointegration.” comments Ulf Brogren, CEO of Promimic AB.

THE PEEK MATERIAL

To overcome the problems of inferior outcomes of titanium and cobalt-chrome alloys PEEK was introduced to the orthopedic field as an implant material due to its similar elastic properties as that of human bone. For the past 2 decades, PEEK has become a common alternative to metal implants in several orthopedic applications. However, PEEK has shown both in in vivo and in vitro studies to have low bioactive features due to the relatively bioinert surface. Therefore, a lot of effort has been made to improve the biocompatible state of PEEK by incorporating bioactive substances into the substrate or onto the surface as a coating.

THE HAnano SURFACE

This new surface represents a new era of implant surfaces, based on bio-mimicking synthetic bone minerals. The unique HAnano Surface is only 20 nanometers thin and is proven to improve and accelerate osseointegration in over 20 pre-clinical studies. Through its wet chemical process it can be applied to almost any implant material and shape improving the integration with bone. This is the third published in vivo study showing that the HAnano Surface improves the integration between bone and PEEK implants. The HAnano Surface is already in clinical use on dental implants in Brazil.
